Djebel Shams

Djebel Shams is the highest mountain in Oman. From the top of the mountain there is a steep canyon which is dubbed as the “Grand Canyon of Oman”. It is definitively impressive, as the canyon is indeed very steep, but it is definitivly not as long or wide as the original one.
On the rim there is a very nice hike into the canyon which goes all along to a deserted village which has been build on top of a big hole in the canyon wall. The hike is about 2h in direction and you need to go back the same way as you have come, if you do not dare to take a climbing route which goes straight up the wall.
